DSS Week 15 NFL Picks

Here we are ladies and gentlemen, week 15. It seems like just yesterday I was looking at my Geno Smith jersey with hope, after convincing myself like most delusional Jet fans that we would be a contender this year, anyway...on to week 15 where we really start to separate the contenders from the pretenders.

Cardinals @ Rams:
I've said it before and I will say it again, this Arizona defense is a legitimate Super Bowl unit. Unfortunately I don't think they can prop up a third string QB. Don't count them out, but don't bet big either. I always miss the Thursday Night Game, but I have to point that out.

Steelers @ Falcons:
The Falcons are who they are, a bad football team with a couple of playmakers. I'm not sold on Matt Ryan and I think Pittsburgh continues their playoff push, I like the Steelers on the road here.

Redskins @ Giants:
Not too many people really care about this one except for fantasy football folks, if you have Eli Manning or Beckham Jr. I'd start em both because I think the Giants put up some points here.  Big Blue at home.

Dolphins @ Patriots:
Earlier in the year we all thought New England was a vulnerable team. I think we all know by now that's not the case. Patriots owe the Fins one and I see Brady and Co delivering a big blow to Miami's playoff hopes.

Raiders @ Kansas City:
Chiefs will right the ship after a tough loss last week. Maybe Alex Smith is the better QB in the long run.

Texans @ Colts:
If the Colts defense could find a way to be consistent then they could make a run. Andrew Luck looks to be gathering his playoff momentum and I think that will continue on Sunday.

Jaguars @ Ravens:
I'm high on Baltimore as a sleeper team right now, and I think that will continue come this Sunday afternoon.

Packers @ Bills:
Packers

Buccaneers @ Panthers:
With  Cam Newton possibly out for a mediocre team I think this is a toss up. I like the Bucs in this one.

Bengals @ Browns:
Enter Johnny Manziel, I hate to say I told you so but this could be a week or two too late. Look for some other players on the Browns to elevate their play and help this kid go off. I also still don't think much of Cincinnati and I think this is the game that all falls apart.

Jets @ Titans:
As much as I'd like to see the Jets lose. I don't think they are as bad as Tennessee, they also just have awful mojo as a franchise and they need to lose in order to get the pick they need to really rebuild. Rex Ryan will continue to hurt the Jets this time with a meaningless win. Geno Smith will show flashes of being a Pro Bowl QB.

Broncos @ Chargers:
In typical Charger fashion early in the season you'd think this was a game. Broncos all the way here. The Manning Brady prophecy continues to unfold.

Vikings @ Lions:
Lions

49ers @ Seahawks:
After that embarrassment in Oakland I think your gonna hear Richard Sherman running his mouth after another Hawks win.

Cowboys @ Eagles:
Coming off a tough loss with a solid chance to rally the fan base the Eagles not only have a chance to sweep Dallas, they could really lock down the division. It won't be a blowout but the Eagles will win. Why? Because the last time they played the Birds dominated the trenches, that's not something you can change in two weeks.

Saints @ Bears:
Another big time Monday night game with two spiraling franchises going at it. I'll take the Bears only because the Saints stink outside the dome.

DSS Lessons From Week 14

This past weekend was a big week for not only the NFL but for College Football as well.  Several games had playoff implications that most of us were reading about all day today.  Except us Jet fans, another post to come on that.

CFB:
We learned that Oregon looks to be for real, they had a tough game against a team most thought had their number.

Marcus Mariota (if nature continues its course future QB of the NY Jets) showed why many have pronounced him to be the next Heisman trophy winner and potential first overall pick.

College football will have its first ever playoff system with Oregon, Alabama, Ohio State and FSU playing off to see who is the undisputed national champion.

The Ducks will take on FSU with the winner taking on either The Ohio State or Alabama.

I like Oregon in this whole thing, but FSU is still a tough team as well.

NFL:
Now to the good stuff....

As far as my picks are concerned, it could have gone better or worse but I will take the wins and admits the losses.

The Losses:

I would take New Orleans at home again against Carolina even after the game I saw, I'm just not a believer, and I have an expertise in pretenders when it comes to the NFL (25 Year Jet Fan Anniversary).

The 49ers seem to be falling apart at just the right time for Woody Johnson (Jets Owner) to get on a plane and make one of only two moves needed to begin the proper rebuilding process. That being said, I still would take the Niners again in Oakland, but man...what happened to Colin Kapernick, I thought two years ago he was going to change the position...Sio Moore happens to think he's a chump.

Meanwhile their next opponent and division rival...

The Seattle Seahawks, what else can you say? If I were a fan of a certain team out west with a backup QB currently at the helm, that plays in the desert, I'd be a little nervous, just saying...

Clearly the Hawks are starting to peak and should make a run, but I will boldly say this...remember in my Week 14 picks, I stated...beware that rematch game, it's not easy to beat a team twice in one season.

Which brings me to the Philadelphia Eagles. Don't worry Birds fans, although I did pick the Eagles and I was being a little bit of a homer, that was a tough loss but lessons were learned. Good teams can find ways and they make you pay for mistakes.  McCoy had a brutal fumble and when 19 Eagles finally got Beast Mode to fumble Sanchez came out in his Jets jersey.  I think coach Kelly will right the ship, even if they go 2-1 down the stretch they should make the postseason.

The Wins:

I knew the Rams were going to win, and I thought the trade for RG3 was brutal but man, coach Fisher putting all the players they got out of that trade as team captains...and you have one of those moments where you say to yourself...see the Jets aren't that bad. Washington lost by the way.

The Giants rolled.

Brady got it done, as usual, I just always pick Pats.

Does anyone else think Peyton will be just fine? Everyone always says he seems off, or he's old or hurt, looks like he is still a winner to me.

I told you Cincinnati wasn't the real deal. That AFC North is a tough division to win.   Browns are gonna learn that again this year, Johnny Football was the risk they should have taken over the Colts.

Which brings me to this...

Baltimore Ravens, not many people are talking, but they should be.

Just saying...

DSS Week 14 NFL Picks

DSS Week 14 NFL Picks.

It's been years since I have had the pleasure of writing this blog.  Life is a crazy thing, one moment your a college kid, the next your 30 sitting at your desk trying to get back into a blog you started seven years ago cause you loved the name.  Lucky for me today I remembered my password (weird right?!?!), now I am back in full force (lets see how this goes).  When I was in college one of my favorite things to do was to write, especially make picks.  Seven years later I am lucky enough to be back at it.  So here we go folks, without any further nonsense below are your week 14 picks...

Cowboys @ Bears:
Little late on this one, but I did pick the boys.  The Bears suck, their D is about as sad as they come, and when you have an O Line that cant be called for holding eventually you win.  Cowboys needed this one cause next week they play the Birds in Philly.  Also, Jay Cutler could still give a shit.

Steelers @ Bengals:
This should have the makings of a tough AFC North match up, but I still think that Andy Dalton is a fraud.  I like the Steelers in this one.  Their defense is getting healthy and they have Big Ben.  Should be close, but I like the Steelers.

Rams @ Redskins:
RG-ME is done in Washington, Me-Sean Jackson wishes he was still on the Birds, and the Rams look to continue rubbing in one of the worst trades in NFL History with a victory on the road in DC, I think they will get that done.

Giants @ Titans:
Both of these  teams will have high draft picks next season, possibly new coaches as well.  I think Eli will step it up and get it done.  Titans are decent at home, but not decent enough to stop Mr. Beckham Jr no matter how bad the Giants have been this season.

Panthers @ Saints:
It should be a crime that a 3-8 team (Panthers) is still in the playoff conversation, but after this weekend that should end.  I like the Saints at home.

Jets @ Vikings:
We all know this has been a long and hard season for me and the rest of Jet nation, but the Rex Ryan farewell tour continues on Sunday with another loss to another mediocre team.  Keep feeding Geno the ball to ensure that top spot in May's draft.  Vikings should get it done against a Jet team that can break rushing records but not the goal line.  Rex Ryan is a broken man...and man...it is a sad sight.

Ravens @ Dolphins:
This should be one of the better early games.  Miami should feel good that they are in the Wild Card hunt, but they should also feel bad they cannot stop a high school running back.  I like the Ravens in this one.  Sorry Fins fans but this team is not for real.

Colts @ Browns:
Brian Hoyer will get his final shot to prove he can lead the Browns to the playoffs, and this was the right move.  Unfortunately its going to be hard for him to keep up with Andrew Luck.  I think the Colts pull out a tough one in Cleveland.

Bucs @ Lions:
Lions at home, not much else to say.  Bucs need a lot of help and they won't get much in Detroit.  Lions should handle Tampa with ease.

Texans @ Jaguars:
Houston still has a chance to make a run, but they will need Fitzpatrick to show up every week to end the season, not sure he can be as consistent, but the Texans should take care of the Jags.

Bills @ Broncos:
The Bills have had a good season even tough it seems that EJ Manuel (see Kyle Orton) is a bust for now.  Unfortunately for them Peyton Manning is not Geno Smith, and they have to play in Denver...I smell blowout.

Chiefs @ Cardinals:
Arizona has one of the best defenses in the NFL, if not the best.  I think they get it done at home against Andy Reid and the Chiefs.

Seahawks @ Eagles:
This is the game of the day.  With a lot on the line as far as division championships and playoff positioning look for the Eagles to show everyone they are for real.  The Eagles defense is much better then people think and this will show.  Look for the Birds to take Marshawn Lynch out of the game forcing Russel Wilson and co to throw more on a cold windy day in Philly.  Mark Sanchez will do enough to keep the Birds offense going.  The only downside to a game like this...usually the winner doesn't fair well against the loser in the high touted playoff rematches.  Time will tell.

49ers @ Raiders:
My prophecy about the niners on this blog years ago came true, the did make a run and they did lose, but they won't lose to Oakland this week.

Patriots @ Charges:
As a depressed, beaten and deflated Jets fan I have finally realized one thing.  Never bet against Brady and Co.  This week I wont.  Pats take a close one in SD.

Falcons @ Packers:
Its silly to think that a 5-7 team such as the Falcons can win their division, and its even sillier to think an indoor team with a borderline franchise QB will out play Rodgers in Green Bay.  Pack might put up 60 come Monday night.
