Tough Times

For those of you who thought this blog was totally dead, you were almost correct. This blog indeed was very close to being dead, but there were several reasons as to why it could have died.
The last time I posted anything on this blog I was starting my career as a TV News reporter. To me everything was going great, I was getting a chance to do what I have loved, and at the same time something I dreamed about doing as a kid. From mid February until now my life has just been absolutley crazy, with alot of ups and some serious downs.
After covering the West Virginia legislative session I thought I would know it all. I thought my career as a reporter was really making way to becoming something wonderful. It wasnt until April 16 that my roller coaster ride would really take off.
The Virginia Tech tragedy was one of the largest stories to break within the past ten years. It was the largest mass murder in the history of this country. I had the honor, as well as the tough job of covering that tragedy, by choice as a senior broadcast student for my school TV and Radio station. I spent the entire week down at that school, and it is an event in my life in which I will never forget.
Before I knew it television stations from Morgantown WV, and even local radio stations and papers were interviewing me. They thought it was fascinating that a 23 year old reporter decided to go down to that tragedy with a couple of classmates to cover the story. I won two awards for covering breaking news. It was a big high in my life, my entire family was so proud. Then came the low.
When the time came for graduation my father and mother came to my appartment. My father did not look like himself at all. He said he was sick with bronchitis, he was a smoker so our family never thought much of it. The day after I graduated college my father was in the hospital with stage four lung cancer. Three weeks later I found myself sitting next to my hero holding his hand as he died in front of my mother, brother, and I. My dad was only 56 years old, and it has been very hard since. At times I have lost my faith, my will to get out of bed and start the day, but I know my father wouldnt want that. So now I am back, looking for a job, and doing what I love, writing. This blog is back, and it will continue to grow.
